Since Prop making is part of the whole cosplay thing thought it would be good to make a thread about props. I myself don't make my own props but I'm sure there are some people on here that do. My first question mark brolly I bought in 2006 was a whopping £199. When this arrived the handle was too thick and it was put on a golfing umbrella which when holding it the handle came up to my chin. I did however manage to find someone who made me a brolly for £65. The handle is made out of wood but he has made brolly made out of the proper arcylic rod like Sylvester's brolly was made out of. Anyway this brolly is much the correct height as the handle when made was put on a normal walking stick umbrella.
I do at some stage would like to get myself a proper metal version of the Ninth Doctors sonic screwdriver. I'm right in saying there are differences between the Ninth and Tenth Doctors screwdriver yes? I have a friend who cosplays as the Sixth Doctor and he told me how easy it was to make a sonic lance since Colin uses that in Attack of the Cybermen.

I've got my TARDIS and my dog, more sonics (both Character and proper metal versions) than I know what to do with, a question mark brolly, a Tomb era Cybermat, and a few bits and bobs from other fandoms too. My dog and my box are so much a part of my life I get very upset if I'm away from them for too long!!

I've always wanted a metal sonic myself, and when I looked up the few places online that sell them I just about passed out! They start a $300 and can go up to nearly $1,000! Maybe one day when my hubby sets up his shop in the garage he'll have all the right tools and can can make me one!
If I do a Nightmare in Silver Clara, I was thinking of attempting her big AntiCyber gun. Yeah, that will be a big challenge, lol.

How does the Ninth Doctor screwdriver differ from the Tenth Doctor one?

I'd love to collect some of the sonics. I have a really nice Romana II one I got from an rpf run, but that's about it. My best friend has a huge collection of sonic screwdrivers she's collected, so I can just live vicariously through her My husband built a remote-control K-9 a couple of years ago, if that counts. I'm still so geeked out by it.

How does the Ninth Doctor screwdriver differ from the Tenth Doctor one? On the show itself, it's a MUCH larger prop, for a start. If you look at the sonic the Doctor wields in "Rose", it's actually a very small prop. About the same size as the little pen torch sonic toy they issued. For season two they made it the same size as the Character toy one (and used the same moulds, IIRC) and the larger, Tennant era screwdriver was born. For the toys, the first issue was a smooth almost pinky plastic toy for the Eccy era, and then for Tennant it went to a pinky/beigey crackle glazed toy for a brief run, before settling on the light grey tone of all the later runs it has had.

With some help from my father, we've managed to make the following props: Oswin Oswald's belt: Oswin Oswald's watch: TARDIS Key with Cameleon Circuit: Parthenogenesis Detector: And i'm currently working on Oswin's communicator:

We now have a Storm Junior watch for Oswin's costume! I found a seller on ebay who had a Storm watch for sale that consisted of a Storm Junior watch base and generic leather watch strap - I've married that and our custom-made watch to make a proper Storm Junior watch. See the watch in the last pictures of the album. www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=623818837668193&l=3f68d08293
