Was wondering if any forum users here have started and are running Facebook pages to do with there cosplays? I myself haven't started one yet. For the people that are running pages have you been given good feedback?

*Waves* I have a little experience with this, lol. I have had a page for over three years now. What I have found is pages are getting very common nowadays and a lot of them just repost the same content as on thier personal profiles... Here's a blog post I did on the subject a while back: Should I have a Cosplay Page?

I recently made a cosplay page with my friends. We started to have sorta a cosplayer group, so we decided to go ahead and get more visibility. Also, we have a blog for geek fashion and cosplay events, so it's a nice way to combine both things: the more known we get as a cosplay group, the better for the events blog ^__^ We just started so recently, and we didn't even finished uploading all photoshoots yet (I think next one will be the DW one ), but it's fun ^__^ If you're curious, this is the page www.facebook.com/redridingcosplay

Well this is why I'm not sure about starting a FB cosplay page for myself. The main things to think about are: Why do I want a page? Will I have content to share that people will find interesting? If you are able to answer those two questions comfortably then go for it, but don't just have a page for the sake of it

I had a page going for about 8 months and decided to shut it down because there really wan't a need for it. I shared more information, photos, etc, through my blog and personal page. I certainly didn't have the fangirl following Matt does, so it was simply a matter of offering up my personal page for people to follow before I shut down the page. I'm having the same quandry about Twitter. I just don't use it. Facebook is my main form of communication and information sharing/gathering. It is certainly how I found you lovely people.
It really comes down to what do you feel you need a page for? Do you have a legitimate reason for needing a page (whether it be information sharing, or keeping your personal page clutter, etc)?

Matt gave me a bunch of helpful advice as to how to revamp my Facebook page, as I do A LOT of things here on the web.l I go by the banner of Owl Feathers for all my ventures, and consolidated everything down to one page and the umbrella title of Owl Feathers Arts. I find that it's really helping me "brand" myself if you will. I've gotten more followers, and a LOT more business with my knitting and sewing! Owl Feathers Arts is the following
Owl Feathers Knits Owl Feathers Films Owl Feathers Photography Owl Feathers Cosplay Owl Feathers Artwork
For me, I needed one place to promote all my ventures, but for you it might be different. Like Jaq said, what do you feel you need your page for? Once you know what you want it for, then go for it and make it brilliant!

I made one a while back and use it post only Costume and event related things I do. I'll post some of the same stuff to my personal profile since some of my family and what not is not on my page (not everything, like a photo here and there). I also have had an image site for the past 10 years for various costumes, some with tutorials that I had put together for others who were interested. My FB Page: www.facebook.com/BenaeQueeCostumerThis chronicles my costume work, event work, and hula hooping My Costumes Pages: imageevent.com/benaequee/costumes/completedVarious works from various genres, some with tutorials. I use my "fan" page as a way to connect with people I meet at cons. I don't necessarily want to give all of them access to my personal life, so the page is there for them. I'm actually a very private person, but I love to share my costumes and love for it with everyone. I normally don't add people to my personal FB unless you are a local friend or we connected on a more personal level.

I didn't want to make one, but my facebook profile was getting very close to the friends-limit, and my newsfeed was pointless since it was mostly people I didn't know/didn't have anything in common with. Having people who just want to look at my costumes separate from actual friends is the biggest advantage to having a page to me. Here's my page: facebook.com/KelldarCostumesThe biggest annoyance is that sometimes your posts aren't seen - and that facebook will bombard you with "opportunities" to boost your posts so more people see them (for money, of course).

I started a page for my Clara cosplay initially because I had so many people who were on me to do so; friends who knew I've been cosplaying for years, con friends who said that I'd hit that point of recognizability (at least in my general tri state area, I'm starting to be known as "the little Clara" from cons), and people who were saying that, because I own so much of her SA wardrobe, it'd be nice to have a page not only for me, but to give advice to other Claras. Now that I'm in college, I'm going to be able to be on it more, but if anyone has tips for making it better, I'm open and eager. My page is Actually Properly Real Cosplay on Facebook.

I wish there were more cons around here. I love wearing my cosplay and when I get to talk to people, I can tell them about my page and what I do with my replica knitting and get more business. Having a page has proven essential for my business ventures.

I have a page on facebook - Clara's Closet Cosplay.
I started it as an outlet for my cosplay as my partner said I spent about 90% of my time talking about it. So I vent my new finds, frustrations etc on there. I also give advice to other Clara's (about hair mainly, not too sure why)and I'm thinking of doing some tutorial videos at some point but I think it's mainly for me. I can look back and chronicle my journey to my ultimate goal (to own every recognizable outfit Clara has ever worn as close to SA as possible).
I've also felt a little like a hanger-on at cons as my other half is 'Youtube famous' so it's nice to do something for myself. If I get recognized - Great!, if not then it's ok. I do it for myself, not other people.

I started a Facebook page just recently, mostly for the fact that I don't want my family to see all of my pictures. Some of them are rather prying and critical of my appearance, and I just didn't want them to see all of my cosplays, knowing that they would make comments. And since there aren't many cons around here, I thought that making a page would be one of the best ways to get my pictures out. I haven't even posted any of my Doctor Who cosplays (just Rogue and Darcy Lewis so far), since I haven't had a chance to have any pictures taken while in them. I talk about cosplay all the time, so I figured that I could use that page to talk about new finds, discuss things that frustrate me about the cosplay community/other people who refuse to tolerate it, and a few other things.

I would like to be in a position where it would be worth making myself a page, but to be honest I don't think that enough people would be interested. Nobody on my Facebook has ever really commented on my cosplays in a negative way so I don't feel the need to separate my friends and family from my cosplaying at the moment. I can see the use of it for people whose cosplays are more interesting, however.

Pages can be a bad thing as well as good thing...
Sometimes being a 'known name' will make you a target for small and petty people...
