Hey all! I just wanted to let everyone know that there will be Whovians at the North Carolina Comicon in November. NC Comicon's website has all the details on what's going on that weekend. I'll be there in my BoSJ dress. I hope to see some of you there!

Ahhh, pre con excitement!!!! James, my husband, needs to still get a Arc Reactor for his Tony Stark cosplay, (I hate last minute shopping, you're never happy with what you end up with), but I'm pumped. And I'm feeling fickle. A while ago I wanted to wear my BoSJ outfit, but now I dunno, I kinda want to wear my RoA dress! Ahhh!!! Anyway, I'm super pumped! I promise to have lots of photos. One of my "brothers" (he's not a brother but might as well be) is coming as a season 6 version of Eleven, which is super cool as well!

lol, yeah my hubby loves Tony just because, well, he's a LOT like him. I definitely identify with Clara, so we make a very interesting couple I think I'll make sure I take lots!

Here's the photos from today! There was SO much to see! We also had our photos professionally taken, and those will be up later this week! I have to admit though, I only had two people who knew who I was today. It was a bit disheartening. You know you invest so much time, energy and money into this and to have so few people realize that you were in cosplay was a bummer. TONS of people wanted pictures of my friend who was Eleven, but few knew who I was. He had to point out that I was Clara to most people. It makes me wish I had chosen a different cosplay, or character. I wonder if I even make a good Clara, or if I should choose a different person to cosplay as.

Oh, no, you make a great Clara! I think it's just that she's new, and she isn't incredibly well known yet, not to mention she doesn't have a super memorable outfit just yet (like River's Zeeda, Rose's Idiot's Lantern/Season 4, Amy's Impossible Astronaut, Martha's red jacket, etc.), not to mention season 7 isn't on Netflix yet, which is where a ton of people watch it. I think that once the 50th airs, there will be a lot more Claras/a lot more people that recognize Clara. So don't worry about it!
By the way, your husband makes a great Tony Stark, and that Captain America was great!

Okay, so I feel a wee bit better now, the photographer from yesterday put up my photo on FB this morning and I'm very happy with it. Now I feel a wee bit more like Clara. What do you guys think? Did it turn out okay? I only wish we could have found a purple jacket for my Doctor!

Wow that's such a great picture and you look wonderful in it! It sounds like the whole event was loads of fun, aside from the lack of Clara love. (I'd agree that a lot of the reason for that is probably because of availability issues (I didn't see The Doctor the Widow and the Wardrobe for months after it aired and my sister who's been away at college still hasn't seen series 7b), the fact that Clara hasn't been around for that long yet, and plus the fact that it's everyday wear probably doesn't help that much (which might be an interesting insight into why some other iconic companion cosplays are so iconic actually). Though I sometimes also get the impression that that's part of the companion cosplaying shtick, considering that most of the interest I see in general Doctor Who fandom circles is for the Doctor, various monsters, and the TARDIS. But it's an exciting time when I see pictures of companion cosplayers cropping up on my tumblr dash and that's probably where most of my excitement lies, so maybe it's a case of most under-appreciated in general, but lots of quality love from the few. In any case I hope you have a much better time with that in the future.)

I wonder if I even make a good Clara, or if I should choose a different person to cosplay as. You could really have benefitted from being in the audience for Matt's talk at LFCC. One of the points he addressed was whether you should or shouldn't cosplay certain characters. The conclusion was, pretty much, if you want to, then you should (as long as it's not offensive or breaking any laws). There's no quality police, so if you enjoy being a character then be them. This is all a moo point, though, since you make a great Clara anyway. I'll admit I'm not as familiar with her various costumes as many of the others on this forum will be, but I think the problem isn't with you making a good Clara or not, it's with people not knowing many of Clara's costumes. That's not your fault at all, there's not much you can do about it other than forcing people to watch a few episodes of S7.5 upon entering the con (and while I usually frown on forcing people to do things, if it's watching Doctor Who then it's ok!). Keep costuming Clara, and only stop if you stop enjoying it.

Thanks guys *blush* you're all very encouraging. Here's three more photos that were taken at the con! This last one is my fave! I love how handsome my husband looks!!! He dyed his beard for the con, it's naturally red!
