Hello! I need some advice... My son, who is 9, would like to be Doctor 8 and 11 in his season 7 outfit during our con-going next year, this means I need to make some frock coats! The most common pattern I've found is pattern #109 from Laughing Moon..the problem is, he's not a 'man' so the pattern will be too big. Does anyone know how difficult it is to alter a pattern to make it smaller? Or, probably rare, but one can hope, anyone know of a frock coat pattern for boys that would be similar in style? I did see this one, but it doesn't seem the right style as it doesn't have lapels: www.amazon.com/Shell-Frock-Pattern-Size--Large/dp/B008P11OKG/ref=sr_1_cc_1?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1387326402&sr=1-1-catcorr&keywords=boy%27s+frock+coatThanks in advance!

Lapels are much easier to add/alter/adjust than to resize an entire pattern down to a boy's size. If that boy's pattern is more likely to fit him, go with it and add a lapel. If you aren't sure how, I'll see about hunting a tutorial, or make one myself. And welcome to the boards!

Thanks Jaq! A tutorial would be awesome! It's a bit hard to tell from just the little picture they offer but the one looks close to 11's style frock coat, just missing the lapels. 8's would have to be altered to make it double breasted too. But, I'll have to order it to see exactly what the pattern looks like. If I need help, I'll certainly take you up on that offer.
