I love the crafting part of cosplay, so yes, I always make my costumes. The exception is the DW pieces I find in stores, since for the DW costumes I usually want them to look more real . But all of my other cosplays are handmade, the first ones with help, and nowadays all by myself I'm trying to go one step further this time, this is one of my next cosplays I'm working on <3 (the one on the left)

I make the majority of my costumes - stuff like Romana I, Donna's Runaway Bride dress, my Time Lord - all of that I made. The "street clothes" costumes are a mix... if I can buy it and modify it, I do. I don't have the patience to try to find the screen-used stuff, I really respect people who can find that kind of stuff

I got someone to make my scarves for me. Oh, and my boots were specially commissioned, and my Season 18 coat. The only thing I make myself is tea. Know your strengths and play to them.

I very recently started making my own costumes (for about a year now, I think?), but for Doctor Who costuming I mainly purchase the pieces I need. I'm currently making Clara's The Name of the Doctor dress though, and in the future I plan on making her barmaid dress from The Snowmen.

I source and buy screen accurate pieces (I spend like 80% of my free time on eBay) but where they have been custom made for the actor (Oswin's dress/ Clara's Cold War dress) it's extremely difficult so I'm looking into making my own. I can handle a needle and thread (I've cross-stitched since I was 6) but I don't have the first clue about sewing machines so I think I'll have to take some classes. Commissioning pieces is too expensive right now but I don't think I'll ever get the hang of corsetry so all my planned Victorian cosplay will have to be outsourced

I love Clara's Cold War and Name of the Doctor dresses and Oswin's dress, but it's difficult to find a good alt for them that isn't expensive, so I'll probably end up making them. I'll have to relearn how to handle a sewing machine (I've sewn sine I was 8 or 9 but I haven't for several years now), but I have a feeling that once I do, I'll be making most of my cosplays, other than the ones I can buy. I'd also really love to make some of Clara's Victorian dresses, but I have a feeling I'll have to buy several major components, such as the corset and under layers. So it'll probably be some time before I can do those, unless I come into a good deal of money. xD I also adore Rose's New Earth shirt, so I might attempt to make that soon.

I love Clara's Cold War dress too, I haven't sewed in a long time but I'm already looking for material for this. I already have the Red or Dead shoes and I'm sure I can thrift a coat and modify it.

The coat should be easy enough to find a really good picture of online. I think it would be a Cold war era Russian Naval uniform jacket. It looked similar to a No.1 uniform but I don't see why they would have been wearing that on duty. Give it a google though. It's what I was planning to do when I plucked up the courage to make the dress because I don't think you see enough of if when shes wearing it to get it 110% right. I'm picky about period costumes lol

Maybe you could teach a Skype class? xD I even brought up my sewing machine. With any luck, I'll get it set up again tonight and can start experimenting tomorrow between classes. But the Cold War dress will probably be the first thing I make (after my Halloween costume). One girl on the Clara cosplay page said that it looked like a 50s-era cocktail dress. I'm looking forward to trying it.

Now that's an idea...hummm, let's see if I can find a time that works for me this week and we might be able to work out a session. Do you have Google chat/messenger? I don't use Skype, but I do use that.
