My first time was for a party and one off as an NCIS Agent Mcgee and had the jacket hat and badge as such, but my main reason for Cosplaying as Ace was the fact that i fell in love with the character in this case Ace and wonder what it be like to have wear the same jacket she had and had seen other that Cosplayed as her and thought why not and at first thought it would be a jacket to wear almost anywhere persay but I treat it like a sports car. Since Cosplaying and meet people and seeing other in costume it relly is a cool wonder that imagination and innovation to a person taste and look as well length to make their costume look 100% accurate .

It's fun to be someone else for a while; leaves the everyday behind for a bit and frees the soul. What's not to love about being a benevolent alien, or a shining companion, or even a dark and evil monster hell-bent on destroying the Universe?

I find i am more confident when in cosplay Me as well. Me three. Naturally I'm a shy person (although no oneever beleives me...), when I'm me I find crowds and speaking to large groups difficult, put me in the Doctor outfit and I've got no problem at all, I can quite happily chat to Daleks in front of an audience of a few hundred. I confess over the years I've inherited a few too many Doctor traits...

I think many of us have taken on character traits of the people we cosplay as we become that character more and more often. That's another cool part about cosplaying!

I'm another quiet, shy one until the great coat goes on and Jack shows up; then it's all confidence, smiles, strutting, and innuendo. I've been trying to find a way to bring some more 'Jack' into my real life to help with confidence in job interviews, design presentations, etc. Anyone have any luck 'cosplaying' themselves for real life?

Well, If you mean wearing Clara clothes as everyday wear...yeah I do that nearly every day...including right now, lol. I either wear my Clara outfits to work, or Clara inspired outfits. I even have some Ten and Eleven inspired outfits I wear to work. I guess I can get away with it as I'm a teacher.

I do have several cosplay items I wear everyday, because they are just so comfortable and good looking. But, I mean more in terms of finding ways to bring some of that cosplaying confidence over into real life, by "cosplaying" as yourself. Perhaps a larger or more exaggerated version of yourself, but still you, to help with difficult real life situations. I think Matt Holden has experience with this and "Casual Matt".

I will admit that I've done some of Eleven's spinning movements and hand gestures a little bit more than I should... ^^' But I guess that's due to wearing my Eleven outfit so often, even as a "formal" outfit to sixth form. XD

I see what you mean! Yes, I do this quite often as a teacher. When I leave the house, I set aside my role as wife and when I get to school I don my teacher hat. I never realized that being a teacher is very much like playing a role in so many ways. When I first started teaching, I very much felt like I had to be an Anne of Green Gables, I even wore my heir up like her quite often, and wore lots of long skirts. It gave me more confidence (which was good, as I had NO clue what I was about!) and as I grew more accustomed to being a teacher the "role" became second nature and a part of me. No longer did I need to wear my hair up for that confidence, and I soon chose shorter skirts and outfits that more befit my own tastes and personality. The role of teacher and I became almost one when I left home in the mornings. My teacher "character" stays with me all day now and has been shaped as I become a better teacher, and it really helped me to get where I am today. I don't know what I would have done had I not been Anne of Green Gables when I first started teaching.

Re: The cosplay items in everyday life.... Oh, dear. I've not been able to leave the house without at least one Amy item lately (the watch, that small black heart necklace she wears sometimes...). AND I've noticed that since I started cosplaying, even the clothes I just buy for myself have a bit of an "Amy would totally wear that" side. I have to say, it IS actually quite fun. Even if, you know, my mom rolls her eyes at me every time we're out shopping and I go "That thing would be a great alt for..... [insert episode here]" Oh well.

Mostly because is SO fun I always loved to wear costumes. In my city we have a nice festivity for Carnival (usually close to my birthday! ), so I grew up loving being diferent things. In highschool there was a contest every Carnival, so many friends and me used to make some fun groups (and we won many years! ). So I think it just came naturally that when my interests change, the "I so want to make a costume of this" came with me. I started with anime characters (I remember to do an Android 18 to a childhood remembrance party), and the rest just came with it ^^ I stopped for a few years, but those years I did instead costumes for LARP games, which is almost the same as cosplaying! The last few years I started again to do pure cosplay to cons (luckily we have now cons here, that helped :3). Actually, I think the con thing is the most important. The years I didn't do any cosplay was because I had no possibility to go to any con. Then they started to do some near to my city, so the hype came back! And now I'm lucky to have some friends with the same interests to make a cosplay group . We go together to cons, we make photoshoots, we help eachother with the difficult parts... so that's why I cosplay. Because I really have a good time while doing it, and I love to meet new people ^__^

I've always been interested in costuming but never really had the guts to take it up, like most of you I seem to be of the slightly shy type. I got into medieval re-enacting and LOVED it. The group I was with did educational presentations at castles over the summer and it's just so confidence boosting to dress up, be someone else and have people ask to have their picture with you. I've had a few really memorable moments that really will stay with my forever, if you excuse the cheese. I find it turns me into a different person in terms of confidence so there's that side of it. Sadly I've had to give up the re-enacting, it wasn't an easy decision and I've missed it terribly. Since giving it up I've sort of wavered between different things I want to try, cosplaying being one of them (LARP too but that's a different kettle of fish and one I'm not quite ready to try just yet).
I went to MCM expo in Manchester a few months ago and didn't cosplay but saw how much fun everyone was having and had planned to do a cosplay to the next Manchester expo. Howeveeeeeeer...a few weeks ago (seems longer than that!) I landed my dream job in London and managed to get a last minute ticket to WLFCC. Even MORE last minute I decided to cosplay because why not =) I've pulled together a Rose Tyler from The Idiot's Lantern costume, it's not perfect but I pretty much love it. So I'm cosplaying because it seems like a lot of fun and it seems like a good way to meet a lot of cool new people =) we'll see if I keep that opinion but I've got a feeling I will!

I have days where I just channel The Doctor. Mostly the stressy days that need some extra outside help, lol!

I've never pondered in great detail why I cosplay. I first started at the first Video Games Live to come to London, in 2006; I saw there was a costume competition, and thought it'd be a bit of fun. There were about 10 or so cosplayers there in the entire audience, but it was an experience I'd later describe as "the first time I ever felt what it was like to be popular", everyone loved my Guybrush Threepwood cosplay. A few months later, May 2007, I went to my first convention, MCM Expo, and since then I've always gone in cosplay. As others have said, I feel SO much more comfortable and confident in cosplay; it's one of the few times that I'd say I'm happy with eyes being on me.
I don't know if I'd say I pick up many traits of the characters I cosplay, I think I'd more accurately say that I tend to most take to characters who remind me of myself in some way, and it maybe exaggerates those traits that were already there. However, this will be my first time cosplaying the Doctor, so who knows, maybe I'll end up spotting some pretty girl and whisking her off towards adventure. Then again that could get me arrested, so perhaps not...

Thought people would like to see this photo of me and my girlfriend from Nor Con last year. I love this photo. We both cosplay because we love it, we enjoying meeting other cosplayers and it makes us feel happy.
