I can't believe no one on here has started a thread on this yet! lol
I know, it's been quiet around here, but let's hear your thoughts and opinions!
First off, I LOVED Capaldi's Doctor. He's amazing, everything I had expected. Clara's character development was good, but I felt somehow a wee bit cheated, and I'll tell you why. When she was confronted by Madame Vastra about the Doctor and how "he's not your boyfriend," I feel it would have been a good point for Clara to explain herself and her unique situation with Vastra, as she has NO idea how she sacrificed herself by jumping into the Doctor's time stream. Clara is emotionally tied to Matt's Doctor, yes, but it goes beyond that I think. She, of all companions, understands regeneration better then anyone else, as she has met all of the Doctor's past selves, but the Doctor she laid her life down for was Matt's. This was her best friend, the person she trusted more than anything else in the world, the man she DIED for, over and over again. So yes, it was hard letting go. And Capaldi's Doctor is so alien to what she has known of her past Doctors. Yes, inside, she still knows it's him, but with his regeneration came confusion and memory loss, which for Clara, would have been very difficult to deal with. She is going through much of the same emotions that Rose did when Nine regenerated into Ten, but for her, the hurt goes deeper than Rose's, IMHO. Clara should have told Vastra this, as it would have also explained to Vastra why it appeared that Clara died then the Doctor found her again, and it would have been less confrontational is some ways. I dunno, I just felt some explanation was needed. I know Whoffle fans loved much of the past implied romance, but I was looking past that, at what an important part of the Doctor's past lives Clara has been. This cannot be overlooked, as it makes for a powerful connection that goes beyond any romance that we might possibly drum up.
I loved all the references to past episodes such as the Girl in the Fireplace. I also loved that they addressed his Scottish accent in a fun way, and I loved that they indirectly addressed the fact that he was aware that he knew the face that he had taken on from somewhere. I liked that they didn't directly say anything about the Fires of Pompeii, but just acknowledged that he knew he had taken on the appearance of someone he had known.
Strax as always, cracked me up!
And I DO love the new dynamic with Clara and Twelve.
What did you all think?
