I have one Clara cosplay that I absolutely love, but I have to wear a dark wig with it and it is NOT summer friendly.
I'd like some suggestions for something I can cosplay with my natural hair- I don't mind styling it but something I can do without a wig for when it is hot.
(Other than Rose, I like Rose well enough but everyone cosplays her!)
My hair is naturally pretty straight, more gold than plantinum, and quite long. I can make it curly or crazy or whatever easily.
Any suggestions are appreciated!

I totally understand why you want to stay away from Rose. She's awesome, one of my fave companions, but yes, a lot of gals do her. Jo Grant is a great idea. There's also Sally Sparrow and Astrid from the new series. Astrid might be a lot of fun! Hope that helps!

I actually saw an Astrid cosplay at a recent con! Jo grant is awesome but I refuse to get a mullet, lol. These are all good suggestions, thanks.

The only characters I can think of right now that haven't already been mentioned are River Song, Polly, and Adelaide Brooke (from The Waters of Mars). I don't know how difficult it'd be to get together a close River cosplay (or how cool any of them would be or hassle with the hair etc), but there are of course enough people cosplaying her that there are plenty of resources out there. Polly, I've never actually seen anything with her in it so I don't know what she wears and can't advise you there. And there's the difficulty with that, there probably are little to no resources for how to put any of those together and not very many people that would recognize you. Adelaide Brooke seems like a costume that wouldn't be too hard to put together and doesn't seem like it'd be too hot to wear (no jackets etc). It's not going to be the most recognizable costume on its own, but that does tend to be the way with a lot of non-Doctor characters, but if you could find a Doctor to walk around with (or maybe even someone to be one of the Flood?) it probably wouldn't be the worst in terms of that. Oh or a femme!Five might work too. Since it's an interpretation you could put something together that wouldn't be too hot probably. I think that if I'd give any other advice I'd say look at pictures of various costumes that everyone's suggested, and try to figure out which ones you like best, which ones are of a difficulty and commitment that works for you, and which ones would be something that you can stand wearing in the heat (for example off the top of my head Astrid's costume seems like it might be okay since it's short-sleeved dress, meanwhile I'm not entirely sure that Sally Sparrow ever did without long sleeves and/or a jacket). Also, I know you said that you don't want to do Rose but I'm going to just put the option out there anyway that a few of her outfits were tshirts and jeans. And Rose Tyler Costuming and Collecting over on facebook sometimes does screenprint runs, which means that they're not the worst in terms of expense and there's no hunting ebay or forums to find them. So you know if you want to just have something as a kind of backup that isn't much effort and isn't a very big commitment, it's a possibility. (A note, as of this moment in time there is a Girl in the Fireplace shirt run being planned so if you are interested you can keep an eye on the page, or since I already am I can try to remember to message you once it's happening.)
