doctorwho.tumblr.com/post/77704541077/bbcamerica-a-new-character-to-be-introduced-inSo it seems as if we're getting a new major character this next series. Maybe even a new companion? Thoughts? Good or bad? To be honest on the companion front though I'm not sure they'd bring in a new major companion without expressly introducing them as such. A companion role like Mickey or Jack or Wilf though, that I'd be more inclined to agree with. I do probably have some more thoughts, but I'm trying to straighten them out a bit more before I let them all loose.

Yeah, I'm hoping he's not a romantic interest for Clara, because I'm ready for the show to really go back to its roots with Capaldi. I mean, don't get me wrong, I love me so Rose/Ten action, but seeing nearly every companion fall in love with some one on the show is kinda getting to me. I yearn for the Doctor/Sarah Jane dynamic again. He can be the new Harry and I'd be quite happy with that.

I'm leaning the same way with that. I'd much rather have more *Clara*, and I don't want "oooooooh Clara totally has the hots for this new guy" as a poor substitute. From there I'm kind of on the fence about his inclusion; it could probably either end up as a link to her life and relationships outside the Doctor which I think would be really excellent, or he might just be another excuse to *not* talk about those things or even worse take away what agency Clara is given in the plot which would be all kinds of not okay in my opinion. It really all hangs on which way they choose.

To be fair, going back to Who's roots with the way they seem to be going means possible underlying romantic tension between Clara and the new guy, because there are definitely parallels with the First Doctor, Barbara and Ian. Especially if Danny ends up being a Math teacher to Clara's English. (I thought that'd be kinda a cute full-circle given Barbara and Ian's History and Science).

Yeah I'll concede that they could do some nice parallels if they decide to go for that angle. Plus, extra points if it means a less stressful departure for Clara (though I'm not gonna hold my breath). I'm still hoping for mostly platonic though, with lots of Clara being amazing (and maybe some of that for this new guy too, if we're being generous.)
