Hi hi! As you all know, this weekend it's the 50th, and in the end they're broadcasting it on a cinema near my city (I never thought that would happen, I'm so excited!!). A good friend of mine decided to go as Rose, since it's her favourite char, and since she's learning to sew, she decided to try the Idiot's lantern dress (and let me tell you: she did an awesome work on that! ). So since she hasn't got any blonde wig, I'll let her one of mine ^^. Today I decided to try style it, so I'm here to show you the first try, because maybe it'll be helpful to another Roses around ^^ I used this tutorial! www.youtube.com/watch/?v=GbzewY_45TAAnd here's the result ^^ You can see the pins, but they will be covered with the pink ribbon I'll take more and better pics on saturday! I'll upload them here

All I have to say is....how. I've watched tutorials and looked at step-by-step guides and I only barely understand the concepts of how to do this. And this is so nice I either want to find someone off the street to practice on until I can get it to look half this great or just give up altogether. Really great job (and I'll probably be back over here whenever I happen to get around to attempting this hairstyle for help and all that).

There's this tutorial as well: I can recommend sitting and having a rough go at it when you've got a day you don't need to be somewhere (or you can brush and shower out all the backcombing!). When I've done Idiot's Lantern my beehive has always been a little rough and ready but, I think, passable =) Looks great on the wig, I chucked my wig and just did it on my own hair =) x

I've heard that there are ways to do a beehive without backcombing (using some super special thingamajig or something), which I hope is true because unless I did use a wig it'd be such a pain. Basically my hair is unmanageable unless straightened and it knots really easily and really badly so I'm kind of reluctant to try anything that might aggravate that. Also part of my problem is that at this point in time I have not yet figured out the magic that is bobby pins so that's a thing should probably come first.

I have never been able to get along with bump-its (or their equivalent). There's a way of backcombing that brushes out really easily, you just have to make sure you brush in the same direction but if you backcomb make sure you brush it out before you shower. Eh, I don't really recommend it too much anyway, too much damage, but maybe worth looking into a hair rat? I think that'd probably cause a more natural 'bump' than a plastic thingy. OK, babbling on a bit now =)

If you have SUPER long hair like I used to have, there is a way to do it without backcombing.

Hmm I just had an idea that I could maybe try leaving some of my hair unstraightened and use that as a base but I have no clue if that'd work. Maybe I could try that sometime.

I saw the backcombing tutorial (the first one result looks totally awesome!), but I was scared as hell to damage my wig... actually is the first time I ever comb anything other than simple things. The tutorial I followed is super easy to go with ^__^ Claireish, you should totally try that one, convince someone, or just try with your hair just to see the effect and the method! I'll be happy to help if you find any trouble!

I think I will, though I'm planning on getting my hair cut soon so I'll probably see if I *can* do anything of the type with it after that.

I don't cosplay Rose but I did a 60's thing where I needed a beehive. I backcombed my hair with a wide comb instead of a normal one. The result was a great beehive with minimal damage. I did have to use around a can of hairspray but I was dancing with it in lol

VO5 have a great range of things like texturising and backcombing spray too. I've used the backcombing one before and it's quite good, not sure you'd get the amount of volume for a beehive but you'd certainly do a lot less damage to your hair if you gave it a go using that? x

I used this thing that was blonde colored and covered in the hook side of velcro (at least it felt like velcro). I sectioned off the front and placed this thing in the wig and then smoothed out the front hair over it. The back of the wig was just a twist. It took me maybe 10 minutes to style. I did also use almost a can of the Aussie brand "freeze" hair spray. I didn't have to worry about ruining my wig, if the bump went in wrong, I just removed it and tried again. I actually liked it so much in my wig, that I bought some for my regular hairdo's. These things, but I got mine locally in blonde. www.ebay.com/itm/Diy-Hair-Bump-It-Up-Soft-Velcro-Insert-Hair-Volumizing-/250895641943
