Couple of points you've missed:
We haven't do date, SEEN McGann regenerate into Eccleston, so he could be four Doctors later for all we know. We've all simply assumed he's the next one along (although fed by clips and pics in the show itself). River gave the Doctor all her remaining regenerations did she not, in Let's Kill Hitler? That was at least nine of them... so that's extended the lifespan a lot. It might be that the Doctor died in the Time War, and the Time Lords' last act was to bring him back? All possible when dealing with SM....

The joy of the Moff factor...
I'd persoanlly be dissapoited if River (who Tim and I 'lovingly' refer to as the black hole of Doctor Who) is now the Doc gets more regenerations... If my memory serves me (and I've only seen the ep once as I class it to be a crime against TV) the Doctor says "you burned up your remaining regenerations to save me" which in my book means no transfer...
I could also be something to do with the first 3 Docs, I remember reading somewhere that Doctor 1 to 2 was a rejuvination not a regeneration and 2 to 3 was forced rather than a true one. However this could be semantics...
The moral, never try and apply logic/reason to Doctor Who...

Mind you, in The Five Doctors, the Time Lords threatened the Master with "regeneration: a complete, new, life cycle"... if they came back (again) somehow for the end of the Doctor's lives...
