I am rubbish at IDing items from DW, however, as a former librarian, I have got quite adept at finding things online. I had a few gals asking about finding SA items over at the Clara Oswald Cosplay page on FB (check them out for great tips on SA items and alts), so I thought I would share what has helped me.
First of all, you have to know the brand of the item you are looking for and any other names assoicated with it. For example, I was looking for Clara's red Silence + Noise dress distributed by Urban Outfitters. Once I had that info, I went ebay.co.uk on my mobile and had two saved searches, Urban outfitters dress, and Silence Noise dress. My saved search notifies me are soon as new items are added. From there I wouldn't have to spend hours looking on ebay, just a few minutes at a time as they showed up.
If you are in the US or other countries, a lot of times you have to ask the seller if he or she is willing to ship internationally and how much it would cost.
These listings may or may not be ID'd by the seller as from DW, which can benefit you if the seller has no idea what it is they're selling, and often you can snag a piece at a lower price.
Tired of being snipped? I sometimes make a private offer if I see a piece the moment that it is listed so that they will remove it and I can have it all to myself without the competition. Some people will take private offers, but it's not something I recommend you doing as it could cost you, and ebay cannot refund you any money you lose it they try scamming you. If you choose to go that path, USE PAYPAL, and always ask for a copy of the shipping receipt.
Another great thing to keep in mind that there might be other versions of that item out there in a different colour that you can dye. That's what I did with my BoSJ dress. It was the grey version, and I dyed it the same shade of red to match, as the red one was next to impossible to find, or was WAY out of my price range. Be creative. I see girls over at the Rose Tyler Cosplay FB page doing this all the time!
I guess now that I shared that with you all I'm going to have to watch out! lol.
If I come up with any other suggestions, I'll be sure to add more! Cheers!
